Cover

Cover Image Cover: The April through June 2004 Highlighted Topic series examines neural mechanisms that underlie the performance of voluntary movements. Although most of our basic understanding of nervous system function has been derived from work performed on experimental animals, it has become increasingly evident that in vivo function can deviate significantly from principles that were elaborated on reduced preparations. As a conse-quence, progress in this field has depended critically on technological advances. This series identifies several key developments and illustrates their application to uncovering the neural mechanisms responsible for the control of human movement.
