Cover Image Cover: The July through September 2003 Highlighted Topics series explores airway hyperresponsiveness with the broad perspective of both basic and clinical research. In the past two decades, airway hyperresponsiveness has been thoroughly investigated by several groups, in an attempt to reconcile immunological and functional viewpoints. This has contributed to a new understanding of the interactions among airway inflammation, airway smooth muscle function, and mechanical modulation of airway narrowing. We acknowledge Steve Graepel, illustrator of the cover design. This illustration is copyrighted by the Mayo Foundation and reproduced with permission.
