Cover: Photomicrographs of abdominal (top left) and thoracic (top right) surfaces of diaphragm of a mongrel dog. Darkly stained bands are acetylcholinesterase-positive zones associated with neuromuscular junctions innervating motoneurons. Magnified sections of left midcostal diaphragm surfaces are shown in bottom left for abdominal surface and in bottom right for thoracic surface. Central tendon is on the left of bottom right and on the right of bottom left image. Photomicrographs illustrate that neuromuscular junctions are numerous and may number as many as 6 across the muscle, from origin on central tendon to its insertions on the chest wall.
