Cover: The October through December 2006 Highlighted Topics series explores the effects of training on the nervous system. A series of seven invited review articles by an international panel of experts examines the influences of training at the level of the α-motoneurons, the human somatosensory reflex pathways, the motor cortex and spinal cord, and the motor unit. Integrative topics also covered in this series include training effects on aging and cognition, muscle coordination, and contralateral effects of strength training. This series was conceived and edited by Associate Editor Simon Sandevia and Guest Editor Roger Enoka. We acknowledge Steve Graepel, illustrator of the cover design.
