Recently Nguyen and Kurtz published a new equation showing how Gibbs-Donnan equilibrium could influence the regulation of the serum sodium concentration. The validity and utility of the formulae may however be severely doubted as they are not clinically tractable and not substantiated by direct evidence. In contrast the evidence provided seems contrived.
