head-down bed rest." On p. 81, incorrect references were given. The
first three sentences of the paragraph beginning "Because there is a
strong dependence between" should read as follows: "Because there
is a strong dependence between the alveolar volume at which a
DLCO test is performed and the
DLCO value (16, 26, 30), we
analyzed the impact of the changes of FRC between experimental days.
There were no systematic time-dependent trends of FRC but a
considerable scatter of data, which might distort underlying trends of
lung diffusing capacity. However, as shown by several investigators (16, 26, 30), a simple calculation of CO transer
coefficient (i.e., the ratio of DLCO over
estimated alveolar volume) is in itself volume dependent, in fact more
so than DLCO."
