Video 1
-
depicts a sequence of phase contrast X-ray images as well as the corresponding plethysmograph recording, demonstrating the effect of a single breath on airway liquid clearance and lung aeration. The images were collected at 800 msec intervals and the movie is played in near real time.
Video 2
-
depicts a sequence of phase contrast X-ray images acquired during the mechanical ventilation of a dead fetus. This movie clearly demonstrates that lung aeration can occur in the absence of active mechanisms such as Na+ reabsorption.
