CORRIGENDA
Volume 86, January 1999
Pages 383-390: T. M. Griffin,
N. A. Tolani, and R. Kram. "Walking in simulated reduced gravity:
mechanical energy fluctuations and exchange." On p.
389, in the legend to Fig. 5, in least squares regression equations for mechanical work and metabolic energy, the ± sign was incorrectly used instead of the + sign. Figure 5 and the
corrected legend are reproduced below.

Fig. 5.
External mechanical work per unit distance (left axis)
decreased to a greater extent than metabolic cost of walking a unit
distance (right axis) when gravity was reduced. Lines are
least-squares regressions: mechanical work = 0.04 + 0.22 G,
R2 = 0.671, 95% confidence limits of slope = 0.13 and 0.32, P < 0.01; metabolic energy = 1.19 + 0.93 G,
R2 = 0.549, 95% confidence limits of slope = 0.45 and 1.41, and P < 0.01. Data are for walking at 1 m/s.
Mechanical values are means ± SE for 6 subjects; metabolic values are
means ± SE for 4 subjects. Metabolic data are from Ref. 16.
