Treadmill for small laboratory animals

A treadmill for exercising small laboratory animals is described. Belt speed can be varied in steps from 13 to 70 ft/min; inclination can be varied from 0 to 16°. The apparatus can be locally constructed of surplus laboratory materials and scrap for an estimated cost of $300. It is being satisfactorily used by the Physiology Division of the Naval Medical Field Research Laboratory, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for biochemical studies utilizing white rats.
