A comparison of concentric, eccentric, and isometric strength of elbow flexors

A method was developed for a continuous and simultaneous recording of maximum muscle force of the elbow flexors and the degrees of the elbow angles during isotonic contractions. Both concentric and eccentric movements were used. The data thus obtained were compared with the flexors' force measured during isometric contractions at similar angles. It was found that eccentric force was 13.5% greater than isometric force and 39.7% greater than concentric force.
