In this system an audio-frequency subcarrier is modulated (FM) by the amplified ECG signal from a test subject. The FM tone produced is transmitted to the stable sections consisting of a receiver, audio-frequency discriminator, and recording apparatus. The apparatus can be used in conjunction with a conventional short-wave radio receiver, and if necessary a conventional tape recorder. The use of an audio-frequency subcarrier enables simple aural monitoring of the heart rate to be made either directly from the apparatus on the subject or after transmission. The ECG is monitored directly from the discriminator output.
