Hypoglycemic effect of tolbutamide mediated by argentaffine cells

The hypoglycemic effect of tolbutamide (Orinase) was completely eliminated in dogs in which both the submaxillary glands and the complete gastrointestinal tract were removed. It is postulated that argentaffine cells are mediating the hypoglycemic action of tolbutamide
