Reflections in model and arterial pulse waves

Intermittent half-sine wave flows were used to introduce pressure pulses into a distensible tube model. These pressure pulses were measured and were analyzed quantitatively for their forward-propagated and retrograde components, assuming that the components have the same propagation velocity in their respective directions. An arterial pulse showing relatively much reflection was analyzed similarly for comparison and was found to have a reflected component no greater than three-tenths as much as the propagated component, which is considerably less than the reflections occurring in the model.
