The effect on the circulation of an orally ingested histamine analogue was studied in nine human subjects, and of subcutaneously administered histamine phosphate in four human subjects. In the digit, a paradoxical effect was observed consisting of capillary and venular dilatation and constriction of arteriovenous anastomoses. The latter effect was probably a reflex response to heat loss caused by the generalized dermal capillary dilatation which was the direct effect of the drug.
