Determination of Lateral Pressure in Small Blood Vessels by the Microchamber Method

Jui S. Lee 1

1 From the Department of Physiology, University of Minnesota Medical School, Minneapolis, Minnesota

An indirect microchamber method is described for the determination of capillary, venule or arteriole pressure. It can be used to determine the pressure in individual small blood vessels in a microscopic field. The blood pressures at different points of a continuous blood stream from arteriole to capillary to venule can be determined by this method. The blood pressures in capillaries, venules and arterioles of cats, rabbits and dogs were determined.
